Year of Transition

Two years ago, when I started my Masters, I knew that Michaella would graduate from High School when I was finishing up. So many things happened along the way. COVID changed everyone’s life. I had seven friends pass, two from COVID. And last March our whole family had COVID. Ministry changed. In YWAM Richmond ministries we have been doing for decades came to an abrupt end and new ministries started. Then amid the COVID peak, I stepped into our Filipino church as interim- Pastor. None of this could have been foreseen.
With Michaella graduating and me finishing up my Masters it brought me into a time of reflection. Around 25 years ago, I left for the Philippines that started my mission career. I met Haydee and had the privilege of raising three kids. Even during these crazy past two years, God has been faithful. God has been good. Now we look forward to what God has for us in the future.
 So what is ahead?
Currently, Michaella is at Liberty University. She is doing well, and God is providing for her (thank you to those who have given to help with her tuition). I have joined staff with the College of Communication Master’s program with the University of the Nations. In April, we are running a seminar. In late September, we will start a tri-lingual (Portuguese, Spanish, and English) Master’s program. This would have intensives in different countries in Latin America. I am still planning to be teaching in DTSs. I just finished teaching in Myrtle Beach and plan to teach in YWAM Lancaster in May. Haydee will continue with Member Care and head our hospitality in YWAM Richmond.
I am seriously considering joining the Intercultural Studies Ph.D. program with Columbia International University in August. I want to continue the research I started in my Masters. There are many reasons why I would want to do a Ph.D., but there are two main ones that I have in my heart. First, I would like to develop tools for missionaries to be more effective in a cross-cultural context. Second, help missionaries stay on the field when dealing with cross-cultural conflict. I would hope that my research could help YWAM missionaries and other missionaries walk in their calling.

We couldn’t do what we do without your generous support. Would you remember us through your year-end-giving? You could do so clicking here. It is with deep appreciation that we thank you for your partnership.

Blessings to you and your family as we enter this season of celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ!

As you have heard from my dad, last  August I started my freshman year at Liberty University. I am majoring in International Relations and studying to be a foreign service officer. At Liberty, I’m also taking several religion classes where I am learning more about the Bible and God. I’m so grateful to be here and experience how God is maturing me as I walk with Him.

God has been so faithful in providing a way for me to be here. Through Him, most of my tuition is covered by grants and academic scholarships. The remaining costs come from my housing and dining plan.

As of now, I need about $4000 to cover the rest of my school year.  Would you give toward my tuition? You can do so by clicking here for information. Anything above the $4000 that comes in will be credited toward my tuition next year.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

So much has happened, so let me give you our family’s update.

What we did:
Since September of 2019, I have been working on my Master’s degree and thesis while Michaella has been finishing up high school. When COVID hit in 2020, the pastor of our Filipino church resigned. Since then, I have been an interim pastor. Furthermore, with YWAM Richmond we have been actively reaching our neighbors (around 3000 homes), going door to door, giving people masks, Bibles, and the opportunity to know Jesus Christ! Plus, we ran different training schools and seminars. Also, I have been teaching in Discipleship Training Schools via Zoom and in person in the States. Let us not forget Haydee and I have been mentoring others in Asia and the States through Zoom and calls.

What we are doing:
I finished my Master’s degree, and Michaella finished high school and will be attending Liberty University this fall. We are still pastoring our small church and are seeing people come back in person and some growth. I will be teaching in the DTS in Myrtle Beach this November. Also, I have been writing some articles for YWAM explaining cross-cultural applications of our values. Moreover, we are preparing for a Trilingual DTS in February!

What we are dreaming:
I am praying that more doors will open to travel again. I could not accept some international teaching opportunities due to COVID travel restrictions. I am hoping we can travel more in the future. Also, I have been invited to join staff in the next Team-Based Communication Master’s degree program for the University of the Nations. We will run an online seminar in March of 2022 and start the two-year track in September of 2022.

As you know, the only way we can do what we are doing is through financial gifts. With inflation, we require more support. Will you support us monthly? You can do this by clicking here. Thank you for your generosity. We are so grateful for your partnering with us.

In His service,

Campbell Family

Prayer Points:

Passing of a Mentor- Trip to Colorado

1/26/2021

This past Christmas I messaged Pastor Russ Frase a Christmas greeting. He has been a mentor of mine since I started Bible school back when I was 19 years old. What he messaged me back brought a level of concern to my heart. He tested positive for COVID and it was wreaking havoc with his body and asked me to pray for him. For the next few weeks, my family and I spent time daily praying for his healing, but on January 16 he went home to be with his Lord and Savior.

I have been grieving his departure, but also remembering the investment he implanted in my life. He has visited me more than anyone while I lived in the Philippines and Thailand. I am so grateful to have known this man. Please feel free to read the tribute to him that you can read by CLICKING HERE.

His memorial service will be on February 4 back in Colorado. Therefore, we as a family are taking a road trip to attend it. This trip is unplanned, but things are coming together so we can be there.

So if you are in Colorado and you would like to see us, please text or call me at 720-401-8347. I know due to COVID some would be uncomfortable spending time with us. That is fine. But if you want to see us, we want to see you. We will leave Colorado on February 16.

Also, we moved to a different house, but we are still in Richmond, VA. If you would like our new address just reply to this email or text me and I will pass it on to you.

Thank you to those who have been supporting us through this challenging season. Know we are so grateful for you. Thank you so much for praying and standing with us.
In His service,

Campbell Family

Tribute to a Man

You hear different descriptions when people write about Pastor Russ. Things like an Apostle, General, mentor, leader, and so on. While all of those are true, the one a lot of people say was he was a father.
Since his passing, I have wanted to write what the Dean means to me. The problem is when I start to think about it emotions start raising and I would end up crying. His life impacted me more than I can even imagine. He was like a father to me. He believed in me when I didn’t. He saw something in me and called it out. He pushed me and corrected me. My gratitude runs deep. I am so thankful I had the privilege to have him in my life.
I was reading my Bible and I realized the Bible I was reading out of was given to me by Pastor Russ. How appropriate. A man of God who loved the Word of God so much would give to one of his spiritual sons a Bible. I remember the day he gave it to me back in the Philippines.
I was preaching on John the Baptist a couple of weeks ago. I was saying how John the Baptist wasn’t looking for honor from man, but pointing to Jesus the Lamb of God. And because his focus was on pointing Jesus over everything else, John the Baptist is now honored before God and man. I believe this is also true of Pastor Russ. He didn’t seek to build his name or his legacy. He was not building his kingdom but the Kingdom of God. And because of that, I believe Pastor Russ is being honored in heaven before God and also before us today on earth.
I am still grieving. I still find myself crying. But my tears are mixed with the gratitude of knowing such a man.
In his last Facebook post on Dec 26, Pastor Russ told us that he had COVID and said he would see us on the other side. I don’t think he was referring to heaven, but it is true, we will see him on the other side.
Joshua 1:1-3 is a passage that keeps coming to mind. Let us continue to live out what Pastor Russ lived for.

Year of the Unexpected

PictureFall in Virginia
At the beginning of this year, I had invitations to speak. But after prayer, I didn’t feel I was to accept them. I had no idea what was coming, but come mid-March, a lot of my hesitation made a lot of sense.

March- In the second week of March I was in Virginia Beach helping them with their staff training for their upcoming Discipleship Training School. Shortly after that, I drove to New York to pick up Haydee and Michaella who went there with Haydee’s brother and sister who visited us from the Philippines. They were booked to fly out on March 14 from JFK Airport. News of COVID was breaking and New York was heading into a lockdown, and on March 15 we were driving back to Virginia.
Once home we had an English, Language, and Culture (ELC) school starting in YWAM Richmond. We had 21 students flying in from Latin America and Korea. But with all of the chaos only 16 arrived. Not knowing what we were facing we locked down the Base. All flights were canceled, so we ran our ELC right through Lockdown.
Our small Filipino church was not ready for online services. I, within a week, built a website and help set up online giving for our church. I had a hand in starting our online services.
YWAM Richmond went from feeding 50 households a month to 120. Many lost their jobs in our area. We are still doing our best to help those in our area who are in need.
April-  I was to travel to Orlando for my Master’s two weeks intensive. That became two weeks on Zoom.
May- We hosted the National Day of Prayer online! We had around 500 join us from all around praying for our nation.
June- Riots break out in Richmond. We responded by bringing Richmond churches to Lee’s Monument for a Day of Prayer and Worship. It was powerful. Hundreds showed up.
Also, our ELC finishes. About half still can’t leave the country. We run a 6-week seminar on Prayer & Counseling. Many of our ELC graduates along with others join.
Also, we start going door to door to invite our neighbors to attend our Jesus Gatherings. We saw people came to know Jesus as we went to 2500+ homes.
September- We started our first Discipleship Training School in Virginia Beach with 14 students and our Discipleship Bible School in Richmond with 7 students. And we are also started going back to our neighbors to give them Bibles.
October- Our next Master’s intensive was to be in Canada, but again it went to Zoom.
As for what is coming, /we are going to move soon (same city, different house). More details in our next newsletter. This has been our busiest year we have had for a long time. Between YWAM, working on my Master’s, and helping our church there has been a lot on our plate. Thank you for supporting us through this crazy year.
As for all of us, we don't know what next year will look like. But we do know God is faithful and he will make a way.

We do ask you to remember us through your year-end-giving. Would you continue your generous support by clicking here? It is with deep appreciation that we thank you for your partnership.

Blessings to you and your family as we enter this season of celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ!
