Who we are:
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions dedicated to serving Jesus worldwide. We unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known.
YWAM Lynchburg is a new YWAM location in Virginia and is part of the YWAM Virginia family of ministries. Our location is housed in a lovely, restored, historic building in downtown Lynchburg. We aim to collaborate and complement existing Christian ministries in Lynchburg. Providing a place of refreshing, healing, restoration, and growth is our core aim by creating a loving atmosphere that invites the presence of the Lord.
Our core staff is all seasoned missionaries with many years of experience. As our name implies, a core value of Youth With A Mission globally is to champion young people. We love to support youth in finding their calling in the Lord. Outreach opportunities are one of the ways we can achieve this goal.
Through our relationships with students at Liberty University, we have seen the mutual desire for us to coordinate outreach to Jeffery's Bay, South Africa. We have experienced long-term relationships with YWAM locations in South Africa, and our staff has experience and relationships with this base.
What will be done:
Before outreach, we will meet with the participants to discuss aspects of the trip and pray and prepare. Training activities will include ministry preparation and protocol, what and how to pack, Biblical perspectives on cross-cultural ministry, and life on the mission field.
The YWAM Jeffrey’s Bay leaders will host, coordinate, and supervise the outreach team. The base leader is Daniel Abrahams, who has more than 20 years of serving YWAM in South Africa. He did his introductory missionary training, called a Discipleship Training School (DTS) in Jeffery’s Bay, in 2000 with his future wife, Melvinia. They are experienced leaders and have hosted many teams on meaningful, productive outreaches in the Jeffrey’s Bay area.
Outreach activities may include:
South Africa has become known as a nation with rising crime. While it is true that there are areas in South Africa that are not safe, Jeffery’s Bay is not one of them. The base is located near the beach, shops, and restaurants. The risk of a serious incident is low in Jeffery’s Bay. Obviously, some precautions will be taken. The base is very security minded and has policies to help reduce the chance of negative incidents. They are well aware of what activities are risky. For example, guests might be advised to leave cameras at the base when going to an area where there is extreme poverty; or go out in groups.
Dates and Cost
The cost will be $2100 (+/-), depending on airfare at the time of purchase). By March first The outreach will leave from Dulles (IAD) airport, Washington DC. This price includes only airfare from IAD, room and board, and local transportation. Transport to IAD from Lynchburg will be arranged. Students from elsewhere will be responsible to arrive at the designated time at IAD. Spending money is not included in this amount.
You need to apply by March 1. There is a $100 deposit upon applying. By March 15 all fees need to be in.

- Evangelism: Door-to-Door and Open Air
- Mercy Ministry-Bible teaching and serving in orphanages
- Practical work serving the base of the community (painting, gardening, etc.)
- Ministry in churches and Bible studies in the area
- Children’s afterschool ministry
- Work with a very impoverished community nearby
- Work with local ministries that serve widows and children from disadvantaged areas.
